My name is Phil and I love maths and physics! I studied both subjects up to degree level whilst teaching several students privately. I then embarked on a career in finance for 15 years, where I had the opportunity to continue to use plenty of maths during my career.

I am now looking to teach both subjects up to GCSE in Derry/L'Derry and Limavady areas from October 2018 to both individual students and mini groups of 2, 3 or 4 people.
LESSONS AND SPECIALITIES
As a student of maths and physics, I know how daunting and frustrating it can be when you just 'don't get it'. The teaching of these subjects can vary dramatically from teacher to teacher. Some ways of teaching don't suit some students and can be dry and dull at times. It doesn't have to be that way! I teach in an enthusiastic and pragmatic way, using analogies and examples from other subjects to help students understand concepts. Furthermore, I am always prepared to go back to basics to ensure students really grasp what is being taught. All too often, teaching doesn't encourage students to embrace the 'spirit' of the subject which is necessary for students to enjoy, but more importantly understand it.
1 TO 1 TUITIONÂ AND EXAM PREP
Teachers need to be able to motivate and guide students to exam success. As an experienced maths and physics tutor, I can identify students’ problem areas and work with them in positive, constructive ways to achieve success. I design my lessons according to my students’ needs, with an emphasis on improving confidence. I have always found that confidence is key in tackling these subjects and is necessary for examinations.
1 to 1 lessons can be completely bespoke and students can take just one or two sessions with myself to discuss a problem area, or we can meet on a weekly basis for as long as the student finds necessary.
Lessons are £20 per hour, with 10% discounts given over 10 lessons.

Lessons can be either at my home near Eglinton or at the student's house (an additional travel expense may apply in such cases).
GROUP LESSONS
Whilst I offer one to one private tuition, I am keen to teach mini groups of 2, 3 or 4 students/friends who are of similar ability. These groups are ideal for students who want to stay on top of the syllabus with some extra learning, practice and revision so they are full of confidence as they approach exam time.
Lessons will cost £15 each for 1 hour 15 minutes, plus an extra few minutes at the end of every lesson to answer any individual student questions. Group lessons will be given over a course of 15-20 weeks, depending on the students' needs and will cover the whole or vast majority of the syllabus.

Group lessons will only be provided in my home near Eglinton and will be available from 2 November 2018.
